If your CD-ROM drive is proprietary, I don't know the solution. If it's IDE, it's likely to be referred to as /dev/hdc (if it's the primary drive on the secondary IDE controller) or /dev/hdb (slave on the primary controller). If it's SCSI, there's a similar scheme such as /dev/sdb or somesuch; as I don't have any SCSI systems I don't remember what the reference is, but someone else can probably answer, or you can find it in the installation instructions that are linked from www.debian.org.
