I've noted a few messages from people with X problems after upgrading
to potato. I'm having one also.

I have upgraded from slink to potato (frozen) via apt-get and
dselect after a lot of effort. All files are current according
to apt-get. But I cannot run an X-terminal, with either xdm or
wdm. Both give similar behaviors. I've configured using
xf86config (and also by running XF86Setup; more later).

Invoking xdm -debug 2 -error gives

(stuff)
.
.
source /etc/X11/xdm/Xsetup_0
dispatching :0

and everything stops. There is nothing at VT 7, no signal at all.
And at the end of xdm.log it says "fatal IO error 32 (broken pipe)

Running XF86Setup (and I've tried both S3 and F86_SVGA card selections)
gives an error when Setup tries to start the display manager:

X11TransSocketUNIXConnect Can't connect: errno=111
which repeats over and over for awhile.

Anybody have a hint on this????? I'm running an older kernel,
(2.2.7) but am told that should not make a big difference.

Thanks! Tom
