I have the same problem, however, it does not occur when the cdr is in the drive for at least 4 hours before starting to write (its a bit warmer then, so I guess its a problem with the laser not calibrating right when to cold). since this also applies when using the drive with WinOnCD, it doesnt look like a software-problem.
