not much backwards compadiblity, i havent gotten around to learning
ipchains too well yet thats one thing thats kept my servers at 2.0.36

for 2.2.x you don't need to add a route for the main interface it willd ot
it for you, if you try it will give a harmless error.

that is needed only to compile 2.2 specific apps ..some of the headers in
the libc6-dev package have been more reliable for me for most other apps.
