According to the apt-get man page: install install is followed by one or more packages desired for installation. Each package is a package name, not a fully qualified filename (for instance, in a Debian GNU/Linux system, ldso would be the argument provided, not ldso_1.9.6-2.deb). All packages required by the package(s) specified for installa tion will also be retrieved and installed.
I must be doing something wrong, because the last sentence above is not true for me. All apt-get does is tell me what's missing: CorelLinux:/home/llester# apt-get install ripple Reading Package Lists... Done Building Dependency Tree... Done Sorry, ripple is already the newest version You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these: Sorry, but the following packages have unmet dependencies: ripple: Depends: libaudiofile0 but it is not installed Depends: libesd-alsa0 (>= 0.2.16) but it is not installed Depends: libggi2 (> 1:1.99.2.0b2.1) but it is not installed Depends: libgii0 (> 1:0.6) but it is not installed Depends: libsdl1.0 but it is not installed E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution). I did run apt-get update before the above. The above example is not unique; I almost always get the same kind of report. And when I try to install the missing items, there's always something wrong with that: incomplete filename, wrong filename, etc. -- Lane ---- Lane Lester / Madison County, Georgia USA ---- Getting where I want to be with Corel Linux
