at home, I'm using "fetchmail -M ppp0" to avoid undesired messages (and stopping) when unconnected (very most of the time ...). It automagically gets mail for the users when one is connected and forward to the local mail system (with different local and ISP account names- it needs some configuration of sendmail to work from home to the ISP-). It's running as root with .fetchmailrc in /root but it's not a problem. D.
