I cannot yet get the commercial OSS-Linux drivers for 2.4.0 test kernel5 so I decided to try compiling modules for my sound card (SB Vibra16). The HOWTO's are confusing, but I recompiled my kernel and I was able to load the sound.o module. I recompiled again, with sound.o and sb.o modules but now I get this:
lilypad:/home/pollywog#insmod sound Using /lib/modules/2.4.0-test5/sound/sound.o /lib/modules/2.4.0-test5/sound/sound.o: unresolved symbol unregister_sound_mixer_R7afc9d8a /lib/modules/2.4.0-test5/sound/sound.o: unresolved symbol register_sound_dsp_R70189dea /lib/modules/2.4.0-test5/sound/sound.o: unresolved symbol register_sound_midi_R1f91aa12 /lib/modules/2.4.0-test5/sound/sound.o: unresolved symbol unregister_sound_dsp_Rcd083b10 /lib/modules/2.4.0-test5/sound/sound.o: unresolved symbol unregister_sound_special_R99c95fa5 /lib/modules/2.4.0-test5/sound/sound.o: unresolved symbol register_sound_mixer_Rc056b591 /lib/modules/2.4.0-test5/sound/sound.o: unresolved symbol register_sound_special_Rfbb45806 /lib/modules/2.4.0-test5/sound/sound.o: unresolved symbol unregister_sound_midi_Rfdab6de3 Why was I able to load the module a while ago but not after recompiling the kernel again- what is this unresolved symbols business anyway? Should I just give up and wait for the updated OSS-Linux driver? This is all very confusing and the different HOWTO's seem to say different things. -- Andrew
