debs,

mistakenly, i put the kabosh on "local" printing due to
my inept networking attempt. here's what i get from an
"lpr":

Script started on Tue Aug 22 11:06:42 2000 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$
uname -a¦lpr Status Information: sending job
'[EMAIL PROTECTED]' to [EMAIL PROTECTED] connecting to
'localhost', attempt 1 cannot open connection to
localhost - Network is unreachable Make sure LPD server
is running on the server job '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' transfer to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] failed [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ exit Script done on Tue
Aug 22 11:06:55 2000

clueless, i don't know how i did it, nor do i know what
it means, but i seem to be trying to print at
"[EMAIL PROTECTED]" in in any event, i want to get my
printing back and deal with networking after i get some
"local" print jobs out.

if it matters, here's my "boot" re eth0:

~$ dmesg

do i need to re-roll the kernel to exclude the
networking parameters?

what networking file(s) could i have mucked up?

other than, "try harder next
time"--muhahaha--...suggestions?
