Had the same problem until i commented the line:
repeat_type=ms3
in /etc/gpm.conf

/etc/X11/XF86Config-4

        Option          "Protocol"              "ImPS/2"
        Option          "ZAxisMapping"          "4 5"

using a genius Netscroll+
