I'm in the process of refining my small home LAN setup, which is
connected to the outside world via a firewall connected to the
internet via ADSL. I'm using 192.168.1.x for my box addresses and was
in the process of setting up a DNS server when I noticed something
odd...

% nslookup sdcrtr.nm.org

Name: sdcrtr.nm.org
Address: 192.168.1.1

Can this be considered an error on the part of my ISP? I was under the
impression that nothing in the 192.168.x.x address range should be
reported to anything outside a private network. Of course I suppose my
whole ISP's network could be considered a "private" network?

I don't imagine you can do anything with this since most routers won't
allow it through but it's occasionally annoying to see errors on my
machines like:

Rejected connection at Thu Oct 5 16:37:41 2000: X11 connection from
sdcrtr.nm.org port 1291

When it was in fact my own machine with address 192.168.1.1 that
rejected the connection, and it's name is definately not
sdcrtr.nm.org.

Thanks,
Gary
