What I normally do is cp the .Xauthority from /home/<username> to /root and starting X as root would then be ok....However, I am unsure whether this would compromise certain security features, etc....Can anyone on the list comment on this method?
Not sure about the sound card problem...what does your lsmod show...are the modules being loaded correctly..are you using the correct moduels which support your sound card?
