My sources.list (again, just to be sure, just the beginning)
---------------------------
# See sources.list(5) for more information, especialy
# Remember that you can only use http, ftp or file URIs
# CDROMs are managed through the apt-cdrom tool.

deb http://http.at.debian.org/debian stable main contrib non-free
deb http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US/ stable non-US/main non-US/contrib
non-US/non-free
# deb http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US stable/non-US main contrib non-free
deb http://security.debian.org stable/updates main contrib non-free

# Uncomment if you want the apt-get source function to work
deb-src http://http.us.debian.org/debian stable main contrib non-free
deb-src http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US stable non-US

(etc.)
-----------------------------

This is the output from apt-get update:

------------------------------

apt-get tries to fetch
http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US/dists/stable/non-US/source/Sources
This does not exist under stable/non-US there are just these dirs: contrib,
main, non-free.
Each has these subdirs: binary-(arch), source
There is no stable/non-US/sources
I don't see why it /should/ work (and why it works for you).

Thanks for your time
