My own preference is to have 4 partitions, with / only 64MB, /usr somewhat bigger (1.5--2GB), and putting all of /var /tmp and /home into the balance (of space). It might be worth posting the exact dialog at this stage, e.g. Install Operating System Kernel and Modules: Select Installation Medium: harddisk Please select the partition where your Debian Archive resides: /dev/sdb1 Please choose the path where the Debian Archive resides: /instmnt Choose from a list of all Archive paths Please select the directory that you will use to install ... from: /instmnt which is what mine looks like.
