I have tried out this way:
\pdfoutput=1
\documentclass[a4paper, pdftex]{report}
\usepackage[pdftex]{graphicx}
\DeclareGraphicsExtensions{.jpg}
\begin{document}
\includegraphics{somepicture}
\end{document}
That worked for me (not only with .jpg but also with png, which is
better for black-and-white graphics ;-))
