i had not set the following variables: mime_forward=ask-yes, mime_forward_decode=no, forward_decode=yes so mutt converted the whole message into ascii dropping attachments. by now it works thanks to carel martin -- 30DC 1D28 1D79 32F5 5E67 3ABB 28EE B35A 3E8D CCC0
