got a couple replies, good thing I already fixed it cuz they weren't much help. both said net-tools broke, and one said to upgrade to the version I already have installed. thanks anyway, and if anybody else gets random net problems and ya can't ping localhost, check ifconfig and route for lo. (yay unstable. :)
next project is to get mutt so as to have people reply to the list. this one probably won't take three days to fix, gods be praised. :) Mike McGuire
