Never? That is very odd...I know that sudo can be compiled to or not to timeout after a bit of time...and debian has a timeout (somewhere between 5 and 15 minutes methinks). I'm not sure if this can be changed w/o compiling from the source yourself. But I think it's way nicer to not have to type in your password four times for every directory you add.
