Try the Linux Administration Handbook by Nemeth, Snyder, and Hein. Same authors of the famous Unix Administration Handbook, same style, but more specific to Linux. Deals w/ RedHat 7.2, SuSE 7.3, and Debian 3.0 specifically, but most of the stuff is applicable to a lot of distributions. They do comment on oddities specific to one distro or another, and covers most every basic topic a new administrator needs. Look for it at Amazon or Barnes & Noble.
Is there a good book for beginner adimin's like me?
HTH,
Monte
