I finally got it to work. I re-read one of the patches I applied before, and I noticed something at the top of the file. The text said I should add `ramdisk_blocksize=4096' to the boot parameters. I did that, and the system booted flawlessly. (Except for one typo in the initrd image, which I could fix myself.)
