I really can't answer that.  Just know that this is so.  There might be
a way to do it with apt, but if there is, i don't know about it.

task-kde and task-gnome have been replaced, merged into
"desktop-environment" (task: desktop).  This doesn't seem very sane to
me either.  It's probably been explained by someone at some point
though.
