You don't have to lie to it, you could have just gone to
http://www.linuxiso.org/ or use the Debian-approved method yourself.
Debian is trying to keep people from hammering the iso servers because
transferring gargantuan files tends to take up great gobs of bandwidth.

You have to update pretty much every X related package to unstable to do
that, AFAIK.  It's easier just to switch to unstable.
