Hi Greg,

As, apt-cache show ldso says, it is only needed for old programs that
use libc4 or libc5.  Chances are, everything you use is libc6 a.k.a.
glibc 2.  At least every Debian package is compiled against libc6, so if
you don't have any other software around, you should be safe removing
it.
