I am not the guy you talk about, but with kernel 2.4.18 dmesg said: sis900.c: v1.08.02 11/30/2001 eth0: Error EERPOM read ffff I was told, that the reason was the driver not able to read the mac address on the card. I had to update to kernel 2.4.20 and switch ACPI off to get sis900 running. (The ACPI stuff seems to be related to my motherboard).
