Ok, someone will probably tell you it's a bad idea, but remounting the drives with 'noatime' in the options will cause the drives to spin up less.
The only drawback I've noticed so far is that mutt can't figure out when a mailbox has been updated, but for my laptop that's not really a problem as I read the mail remote. :) //Humming
