Hi!

According to the docs concerning the Latitude C600 found at 
http://www.linux-laptop.net you should compile VESA framebuffer into the kernel 
and add "vga=773" as a kernel parameter to /etc/lilo.conf, then run lilo again 
and after the next reboot you should have a 1024x768 text console at 256 colors.
