There is a .deb file for mplayer. You need to add libasound2 from unstable and also liblircclient0, libmud0 and libsdl1.2debian from testing. Then add this to your /etc/apt/sources.list do a apt-get update apt-get install mplayer-686 mplayer-fonts mplayer-docs. And you have a nice GUI MPlayer.
