This method seems, IMHO, a *much* easier way to go about compiling a new kernel. Give it a try... http://newbiedoc.sourceforge.net/tutorials/kernel-pkg.en/index-kernel-pk g.html It is written to reference using the 2.2.19 source, but I've personally used those same instructions to successfully compile 2.4.17 a few days ago. Of course, it took nearly an hour on a P166. :) Also, as someone else on this list mentioned, you need to ensure that several packages on your system are of a certain revision (or higher), an example being modutils. The above URL give you specific pointers about where to look in the kernel source docs to make sure. Jeff Bonner (Third attempt to send to the list, hope this works :)
