How did you configure your DHCP connection? How do you know that the NIC driver is where the problem lies? Just loading the 'tulip' module isn't going to give you an internet connection. (Think layered architecture. Upgrade your kernel if you know that's what fixes the bug.. I've never had problems with tulip myself. I've got two LinkSys cards; one is somewhere around 3 years old, the other is a year old.
