I have some older debian boxen: # ip -V ip utility, iproute2-ss001007
on which simple commands return expected results: ip addr ip route However, I have another box with this: # ip -V ip utility, iproute2-ss010824 No matter what combinations that I try, I cannot get anything resembling network information: # ip addr Cannot send dump request: Connection refused # ip route Cannot send dump request: Connection refused # ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:10:5A:A5:59:6D inet addr:192.168.123.110 Bcast:192.168.123.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:5482140 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:2 frame:0 TX packets:2844533 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:100 RX bytes:835154421 (796.4 Mb) TX bytes:909049042 (866.9 Mb) Interrupt:9 Base address:0xe480 lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:3924 Metric:1 RX packets:1468 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:1468 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:113092 (110.4 Kb) TX bytes:113092 (110.4 Kb) # uname -a Linux Loki 2.2.19 #1 Sat Oct 20 18:09:49 EST 2001 i686 unknown Is there something wrong with this version of iproute? The system performs OK. I don't know of any problems with it. I am writing some scripts that use iproute functionality and, obviously, they fail on this box on which I want to debug the scripts ;< What do you think? -- Best Regards, mds mds resource 888.250.3987 Dare to fix things before they break . . .
