If you're serious about mounting your Psion you could try checking if
you have NFS support built into the kernel. I remember being unable to
mount my Psion after one kernel recompilation that had me aggressively
removing modules I felt I didn't need. Anyway try this check:

grep -i nfs /boot/config-*
CONFIG_NFS_FS=m
CONFIG_NFS_V3=y

Also, to ask the obvious, are you trying /usr/sbin/plpnfsd as root?
