It a matter of hardware/chipset/processor support. Debain supports arm,mips,m68k,alpha,sparc, etc. The kernel can support all kinds of hardware, you just need to get info about it and see if it is supported under free software. I'd suggest getting all of the info that Windows CE can provide and search for support for that under free software.
