it's looking for a file called gtk-config, which appears NOT to be
installed;

configure:14713: checking for GLIB - version >= 1.2.6
configure:14818: gcc -o conftest -g -O2 -I/usr/include/glib-1.2
-I/usr/lib/glib/include -D_REENTRANT   conftest.c -L/usr/lib -lgthread -lglib
-lpthread  >&5
configure:14821: $? = 0
configure:14823: ./conftest
configure:14826: $? = 0
configure:14844: result: yes
configure:14940: checking whether to use IPv6
configure:15006: result: no
configure:15415: checking for gtk-config
configure:15446: result: no
configure:15454: checking for GTK - version >= 1.2.6
configure:15591: result: no
configure:15666: error: Test for GTK failed. See the file 'INSTALL' for help.
