I'm sorry about this. I sent it a while ago... to one of the respondents of this problem.

I hope it works and that you needn't completely re-install.

If pointing your browser to http://localhost:631 does not work, then I suggest two things: Firstly, in a console, type in ifconfig and make sure that lo is represented there. If it isn't, configure /etc/network/interfaces by adding these lines:

# The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

Then, simply either restart your network (/etc/network restart I think)
and if that doesn't work, restart your computer. CUPS should then be

working. If not, then I have probably wasted your time.
