Not only is it free, and not only will Ubuntu send CDs on request, it actually anticipated my desires by sending me a Live CD and an installable CD before I requested them! I have used Debian since potato, and generally have liked Debian. However, what really turns some people on to Debian turns me off -- especially the package manager criteria for including not-quite-pure executables (e.g., pine) in most of the distributions. I know my mild comment will light a roaring conflagration, but I won't participate in it, particularly since I believe it is praising Debian with faint damns. I have tried the live CDs of both Ubuntu and Knoppix -- I thought Knoppix was a little more responsive than Ubuntu (though both seemed good), but since I don't expect to use the Live CDs very often, it could take a very long time to find out through my own trial and error which of the two I really prefer. So I thought I could get some second-hand experience via the Debian user list; after all, isn't that one of the charms of Linux and the people who use it? sam -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
