Do you have a specific *technical* reason for needing XFree86? Starting with
Etch, Debian's default X system will be XOrg, not XFree86, due to the decision
by XFree86's developers to use a license which was not suitably DFSG-free,
according to Debian developers. See current Debian Project Leader Branden
Robinson's explanation of the switch from XFree86 to XOrg:
http://necrotic.deadbeast.net/svn/xfree86/trunk/debian/local/FAQ.xhtml
Unless you have a compelling specific technical reason for preferring
XFree86's
fork of X, you should probably use XOrg, since this will be Debian's default
going forward.
