I was trying to get around the current problems with the "tsting" version
by apt-get install by hand, since I can't run apt-get dist-upgrade or
dselect.

On 4 of the 6 machines I've go I didn't screw anything up doing this.
However on my wifes amchine (naturaaly :-(). I did:

dpkg: regarding .../libparted1.6-0_1.6.5-1_i386.deb containing
libparted1.6-0:
libparted1.6-0 conflicts with libparted
libparted1.4 provides libparted and is installed.
dpkg: error processing
/var/cache/apt/archives/libparted1.6-0_1.6.5-1_i386.deb (--unpack):
conflicting packages - not installing libparted1.6-0
Errors were encountered while processing:
/var/cache/apt/archives/libparted1.6-0_1.6.5-1_i386.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
teddy:~# apt-get remove libparted1.4

You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these:
Sorry, but the following packages have unmet dependencies:
   libparted1.4-dev: Depends: libparted1.4 (= 1.4.24-4) but it is not
   going to be installed
parted: Depends: libparted1.6-0 (>= 1.6.0) but it is not going to
         be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages
         (or specify a solution).

Could some kind soul tell me how to fix this?

I'm pretty much stuck on this amchine at this point in time :-(
