New to Linux.. I suggest you become comfortable with the command line. For example, a handy tool for configuring sounds cards, run "sndconfig" from the prompt (must be root) - or "alsaconf". This will run a setup utility. Keyboard layout configurations depend on what you are running, KDE, Gnome, etc. But, again, there are commands you can run to set your locale, languange, keyboard layout, etc. You can probably find many of these functions under the menu while in KDE, Gnome, etc. Here is a great starting place: <http://dsl.org/cookbook/> Simply searching Google for the things you are trying to do will guide you as well - as many users have come before you and have already asked many of the same questions.
