Not odd at all. Installing Windows XP is a nightmare - well, to be
fair, the actual "base install" is OK-ish, but dumps you in a very
basic setup with no network, no sound and a 640x480 VGA display. You
then have to install multiple drivers in a specified order with a
reboot between each one. Bleh.

Well, sometimes the network card is detected automatically, and then WinXP is connected to the internet and loading viruses, before you even have a chance to stop it (except for having it unplugged :-))

Well our installation disks for XP are a few years old by now, so on more recent hardware, XP sucks when sarge is a charm.

To OP: Why do you bother?
Because you can mail us your problems and we will help you. We even don't mind having Debian four words from a psychatric clinic. Compare that to your troubles with the other OS (with that entertaining internet connection wizard that never works)!
