I'm afraid I don't have experience with either of those machines. I have a really old Sun Ultra 10 that works really nice. But my experience with Suns is that they are very expensive for the hardware you get (unless perhaps you need a lot of tech support). But if all you're wanting is a 1U rackmount with an Opteron dual core, why not build it yourself? You can get it a lot cheaper and it's a lot of fun to build your own. :-) I'm currently in the process of building a 1U with a 64bit Athlon and 1GB of ram. (It's for some personal webhosting projects, so I didn't go too heavy on hdds, ram and such.) Alternatively, if you're really stuck on one of the two machines you listed, you might try asking over on debian-isp. They seem to have more experience with rackmounts and servers.
