It is possible if you have the backports.org in your apt/sources.list. 

Here is mine:

$ apt-cache policy nvu
nvu:
  Installed: 1.0-0bpo1
  Candidate: 1.0-0bpo1
  Version table:
 *** 1.0-0bpo1 0
        200 http://www.backports.org sarge-backports/main Packages
