Because there are those who are like me before I learned how to use mutt -- they won't use pine for liscence reason, the graphical mail clients don't cut it, and/or they just plain love the interface for slrn/<favourite newsreader> and so much prefer to read the list via gmane or other mail-to-news gateway.
