No, aptitude will it make it worse. I can´t get aptitude to do, or at least to apparently do, what I want. Besides that, package selection with aptitude is a horrible task. The problem is the broken dependencies. If you install Xorg, you get conflicts with packages or unfullfilled dependencies with packages that have not been adapted to Xorg. I even lost the fonts for the X server and had to repair that to get Xorg to work. Well, I only needed some QT libs to compile a program I want to try out.
