Of course, purging "all" CUPS files will also remove (and I quote from
apt-get's output):

  abiword* acroread* acroread-plugins* cupsys* cupsys-pt* epiphany-browser*
evince* gnumeric* gpdf* gs-esp* gtk2-engines-gtk-qt* gtklp* hplip* kaffeine*
karbon* kchart* kcontrol* kdebase-bin* kdebase-kio-plugins* kdelibs4c2a*
kdeprint* kdesktop* kedit* kfind* kformula* kghostview* khelpcenter* kicker*
kivio* kmenc15* kmplayer* koffice* koffice-libs* konqueror* koshell* kpdf*
kplayer* kpresenter* krename* krita* kspread* kthesaurus* kugar* kword*
libcupsimage2* libcupsys2* libcupsys2-gnutls10* libfox1.2* libfox1.4*
libgnomecups1.0-1* libgnomeprint2.2-0* libgnomeprintui2.2-0* libgoffice-1-2*
libgtksourceview1.0-0* libkonq4* libwine-print* samba* xfe* xpp* yelp*

There is absolutely no reason for xfe or kformula or epiphany-browser to
depend on printer support at all, much less the presence of a specific
printing subsystem.

It's an ABOMINATION that Samba requires CUPS. What? Who decided that?

This just keeps getting worse.

I want advice. Should I file critical bugs against every single package
above, or just write to the Leader? I mean, KRENAME requires CUPS support?
It doesn't and can't print!
