Hello Wei Hu again.
my system has both pyton2.3 and python2.4. Is it safe to remove
python2.3 using apt-get remove.
Not as long as there are programs which need it. And at the moment the default
python
package still points to python2.3, so programs will most likely use it.
But there is a transition ongoing from version 2.3 to 2.4. At the moment it is
only in the
experimental branch but it is planned to include this transition with the
release of Etch
in december.
So, if you are using Testing or Unstable you may try the new packages from
Testing and
checkout your Python programs after upgrading. But don’t demand that all of
them keep
working. This is what the transition currently is for.
I think most of the transition is already in sid as of a few days ago.
After coaxing aptitude I think I successfully made the transition.
