Do you have a SATA hard drive by any chance? I vaguely remember having a similar problem when upgrading a SATA box from Stable to Testing. I think the old configuration listed the drives as /dev/hda but after the upgrade they became /dev/sda. Something like that anyway (sorry, it was a while ago).
