Doesn't dd serve the same purpose?
Use dd to copy the data:
$> dd if=/dev/dvd of=dvddata.iso
and then burn the iso to a blank disk using growisofs.

I thought growisofs uses mkisofs but it looks like it is using dd here.
can I then just use dd to burn the .iso image like
dd if=WOTM2.iso of=/dev/hdc obs=32k seek=0
and expect it to work?
