Along the lines of this one may I ask what is the netiquette on
thanking someone who helped you find a solution? I naturally would
like to thank someone if they managed to resolve the problem for me
however I notice a lot of issues on lists are resolved and people more
often than not refrain from do so. What is the norm?

I would think that a thank you is a self-evident obligation (I am
speaking from common sense, not an expertise in netiquette). I suppose
one could possibly do that off-list.
I would also suggest that running a quick spell check is a good idea,
if convenient. I confess to sometimes being remiss in this.
