Sorry I missed your reply.  

I tried locale + <tab> from a bash prompt on my sarge and found no
localepurge.

I tried:

$ locate locale | g purge

.. and no joy either.

Then I did a "man locale" and looked for a purge option ("/purge") and
couldn't find anything either.

Is this new with etch/sid .. ?
