Eep. Even after running the cleanup script, the process of doing an apt-get update and reinstalling one package increases the size of the squashfs from 685M to 1.1G. It seems like all it does in terms of cleaning up after apt/dpkg is to call 'apt-get clean' which apparently only removes .deb files from /var/cache/apt/archives - the meta-information sticks around, and that is quite huge in Debian. The cleanup script does provide a nifty tool to build upon, though! Thanks, --j
