It works perfectly here!

All I want is something simple just to show if my php-sites has the perfect setup before uploading it, thats all.

I dont have all the knowledge in setting up a webserver from scratch and this one works very well for me :-)

That is understandable. It may be worth it to try setting one up sometime. If just for the practice.

I am also surpised that XAMPP properly intsalls itself in /opt/ rather than spewing itself everyware and confusing the package management system. (A common problem with installing pre-compiled software for Linux by a means other than the disto's package management system.
